Vanessa Williams

Vanessa Williams

Series Director, Location

Vanessa Williams is an experienced Series Director  and Location Producer  working across factual entertainment, current affairs, topical live shows and travelogues, she is based in the Northwest with bases in Bristol and London.

Vanessa has worked with big name talent such as Jane McDonald, Kirstie Allsopp, Phil Spencer, Amanda Lamb, Alan Titchmarsh, Richard & Judy, Fern Britton  and has also spent time nurturing new talent in front of and behind the camera.

Specialising in factual entertainment, and formatted location programmes, Vanessa has helped create family favourites such as Holidaying with Jane McDonald  to audiences of over one million viewers. Setting up international shoots in USA, Africa, Japan and Europe is a skill that comes naturally, including negotiating with local fixers and local authorities to set up location shoots across the world.

As well as international filming, Vanessa has managed teams large and small, remotely or in-house. She helped develop Granada TV’s former lifestyle channel, Granada Breeze  with Richard Hammond  and Claudia Winkelman.

A trained NCTJ journalist, Vanessa was programme editor for Guardian Media news group’s daily breakfast Channel M news show, broadcast live for 3 hours a day on SKY.  Here she can claim credit for launching the careers of then two unknown broadcast journalists, BBC Breakfast news presenters Ben Boulos  and Nina Warhurst.

Vanessa can turn her hand to all types of programming but is happiest in factual entertainment travelogue-style shows.  She has also worked with New York based Leopard TV  to direct the constructed reality format, House Hunters International,  filming all across Europe.

Other recent credits include C4’s A Place in the Sun, ITV’s Love Your Garden, Discovery’s My Mortgage Free Home, BBC1’s Countryfile and The One Show
